As the driver of a W124 300d, I can attest to a Prius beating it off the line. In hand to hand (wheel to wheel?) combat, I don't know. General ability to not BLARG in the snow, the Prius probably takes the crown - I drove on a number of roads like that this morning.

I have driven many a 124/126 in the snow. Aint bad with the right skins. But I was looking at the Prius, bumper cover was smashed up and into a taillight. The 126 front frame rails looked like they must have been twisted a bit, so that thing is toast. Up here could have been rotten though below the body, and that heavy engine decelerating might have pulled it around a bit

It's no W123 300d in the snow, that's for certain. A heavy nose, relatively soft front suspension, and light rear make those funny any time traction comes up short.
From strike location on the Prius, then, may have soaked a lot with the battery box/surrounding framing - which could be good or bad. Just hard enough it protected the car structurally - good. Hard enough to warp or trash the battery area - very very bad.
Most Benzes like to fold up to soften impact and dive the engine, so very possibly toast.

yeah I have seen those engines take a dive before...those squirelly things in the slick. Good tires dont even make a difference. Chains do though!
